Business Series: Are You More Than Your Title?
Time & Location
About The Event
Are you more than your job title? Do you have multiple professional identities but people only see you as one? Or, do you struggle with what to call yourself because you’re a multi-talented, multi-passionate professional? Have no fear. There’s a term for people like you- I call it being a hybrid professional because you’re not one thing. Instead, you’re crossing and combining your multiple identities together.
After setbacks and roadblocks in my career, I learned that I was a hybrid the hard way. Now, I’ve created a set of tools to help others figure out their hybrid professional identity too. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to design a kickass, eye-catching, non-jargony professional brand that showcases your hybridity. In today’s workforce, you have to stand out, be unique, and get straight to the point. That means your job title needs to reflect who you are. See more about hybrid professionals at: https://www.morethanmytitle.com/
This workshop is about professional branding for people who do more than one thing (i.e. freelancers, gig workers), are going through a career transition, or just want to refresh what they call themselves in response to the “what do you do” question.
We will run through a series of activities to:
- Establish self-awareness of what you currently do
- Drill down into your core professional identities
- Investigate the intersections of your professional identities
- Hybridize and design new titles for ourselves
About Sarabeth Berk
Sarabeth Berk considers herself a hybrid professional and identifies as an artist/researcher/educator/designer. Her hybrid title is “Innovation Strategist” or “Creative Disruptor”, depending on the day and the group. With a background in creativity, design thinking, systems building, and entrepreneurship, Sarabeth is skilled at convening and connecting diverse groups of stakeholders to solve those wicked, unrelenting, systemic human-centered problems. “Show don’t tell” and “Seeing is believing” are her favorite mottos, and early adopters are her favorite collaborators.
Sarabeth obtained her PhD in curriculum studies and instruction from the University of Denver, and has focused on innovation in nonprofits, K-12 and higher education throughout her career. She also has degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Rhode Island School of Design.
When she isn’t transforming education or disrupting the status quo, Sarabeth is a council member on the Denver County Cultural Council, and a fan of all things arts and culture. She listens to a zillion podcasts (her current faves are How I Built This,
Hidden Brain, and Design Matters) and plays in the outdoors as much as possible- mountain biking, skiing, and hiking with her dog are at the top of her list.
